Major of Public Maritime Administration

Bachelor (ISCED 2011 level 6)

Cost 2,590,500 South Korean won per semester

The Department of Maritime Administration focuses on researching and developing policies of maritime administration as well as on producing experts who can take up practical work. Since theories of the science of public administration and policy science in general are the bases of acquiring professional knowledge related to marine administration, general courses from the regular departments of public administration are included in the curriculum. In addition, the Major of Maritime Public Administration includes specialized courses on the sciences of marine administration and policy.

As the United Nations Conference on the Law of the Sea came into effect and the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries was established in 1996, there was a national demand to train experts in maritime administration and marine-related policies systematically and efficiently in order to meet the changes in the maritime environment. The Major of Maritime Public Administration was established in 1999 as the first in its kind in Korea.

The special fields of the major in maritime public administration, which can be differentiated from the general fields of public administration, include International maritime diplomacy, maritime territory management, port development and management, maritime traffic administration, marine logistics, marine environmental administration, labor administration for seamen, maritime police administration, maritime safety and disaster relief, marine resources development, maritime trade promotion, and fisheries administration.
