Course Description:
The course provides an introduction to the main principles, approaches and issues associated with fishing activities. The present stage of technology used in the marine environment is reviewed with special emphasis on the potentials, limitations, environmental impacts, and future development of marine technology.
Prerequisites
Only for students in Coastal and Marine Management (MRM programme)
Learning outcomes
On completion of the course, a student:
- has a thorough understanding of the newest fishing technology and can describe it in detail.
- has an understand of how technological advances in the fishing industry can lead to overfishing as well as other environmental impacts.
- can collect and evaluate scientific data related to fishing activities in the coastal and marine zone.
