During the bachelor's degree in Earth, Economics and Sustainability at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, you will come up with feasible sustainable solutions for this. You develop the unique ability to look at current issues in different ways, both from the perspective of people's choice behavior and from the changing climate and landscape. You can relate to all parties involved – from a multinational to a farmer who grows organically. This way you come up with well-thought-out solutions that involve people, their living environment and social costs and benefits.
The Bachelor's degree in Earth, Economics and Sustainability is personal: there is a lot of guidance, many contact hours, a friendly study association and a lot of attention for your personal development. This development does not only take place in lectures, you regularly go out. You investigate practical situations during fieldwork in the Netherlands and abroad and go on excursions to, for example, an energy producer or a water board. This way you immediately come into contact with people from your future labor market.
Grant opportunities
The Semester in Amsterdam programme offers three scholarships in the amount of €2,500 each (to be subtracted from tuition costs) to prospective Semester in Amsterdam students. Please note that the scholarships do not cover all expenses and scholarships cannot be combined. You can choose to apply for more than one scholarship to increase your chances, but you will only receive one.
Prerequisites
VWO diploma
At the VU you can study Earth, Economics and Sustainability with the following VWO profiles:
- Nature and health
- Nature and technology
- Economy and society
- Culture and Society, supplemented with mathematics A or B
- Please note: if you have a society profile, know that Earth, Economics and Sustainability has mathematics, chemistry and physics subjects. These start at E&M level, but quickly go into depth. If you want to do Earth, Economics and Sustainability without a nature profile, realize that you must be prepared to focus on these science subjects again. So work hard, but you also develop an innovative view on these subjects. If your final list for mathematics is insufficient, then this course is probably too ambitious for you.
