Within the Master program Ecology and Ecosystems (MEC) a variety of specializations are made possible in modules MEC 4-9, and within the Master thesis. The modules MEC 1-3 are mandatory courses and can not be individually selected. Whether you are interested in Limnology and Freshwater Biology or in Biological Oceanography and Marine Biology, we offer a variety of courses to receive profound education in these specific research areas.

MEC - Specialisation in Limnology and Freshwater Biology

MEC-4

300139 UE Introduction to biodiversity and ecosystem research (5 ECTS)
Introduction to lab and field work. Experts offer various topics including limnological areas you can choose. The topics vary from semester to semester.

MEC-4 is a course in which students will be introduced into practical research under supervision of the contributing staff in the respective working groups and labs. This course is providing all new MEC students a first opportunity to dip into practice-oriented research. Depending on the topic and the number of participants, students will either work individually, or in very small groups together.

MEC-5

Experimental design and data analysis (10ECTS)

Lecture series with limnological content and statistics using R

300325 UE Multivariate statistical methods in ecology (3 ECTS)

300452 VO Multivariate statistical methods in ecology (2 ECTS)

MEC-6

Techniques in biodiversity research (10ECTS)

Lab and/or field work. Lectures with limnological content

300295 UE Field course "Biodiversity of freshwater ecosystems" (10 ECTS)

MEC-7

Techniques in biogeochemistry and ecosystem research (10ECTS)

Lab and/or field work. Lectures with limnological content will be announced for the winter term

MEC-8

300299 UE Specific Research Project in Ecology (10ECTS)

Lab and/or field work. Choose between various themes including limnological topics offered by experts in the field. The topics vary from semester to semester.

MEC-8 is a module/course in which students shall conduct small research projects individually, under the guidance of the involved supervisors (see link) and embedded in the various contributing research groups/departments.

MEC-9
